Shipping Noise Prediction in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea

Predicted spectral noise levels, in dB re 1 μPa²/Hz, for the frequency of 100 Hz

The above figure shows predicted noise fields for three different depths: 50, 100, 200 m [Selection through buttons at the top]. Also the ship locations can be shown [Selection through check box]. The results are periodically updated on an hourly basis. The evolution over the last 24 hours can be reviewed using the slider or the play/pause buttons.

Ship data

Data on ship location, type, etc. are obtained in near-real time from the MarineTraffic ship tracking service (www.marinetraffic.com). Typical spectral source levels are used depending on ship type and navigation condition.

Propagation modeling

The results presented here are from adiabatic normal mode calculations using the ETOPO1 bathymetry, typical geoacoustic parameters and sound-speed profiles depending on the season.
